Claire: Yeah...

I've been lacking on keeping up with my posts. Sorry about that. It's been pretty crazy over here this past week. Between some very stressful events, working some ridiculous hours and the Boyfriend being back things have been all over the place.

I've lost another pound and a half since my last post too! Very cool, so now I'm at a new all time low.

Since I had the day off and so did the Boyfriend we got together and hung out at his parents' house, playing with his little boy and his siblings, and talking with his folks. He lives out in the country and we ended up hiking around the woods that are on the property. There's this huge tree that they call the "climbing tree" and the Boyfriend and I scaled up pretty high. The view from way up there was incredible, you could see for miles and miles. His mom made us dinner and we had a great time just being with his family.

Food: two bowls of Golden Grahams w/2% milk; 1/2 pb and honey sandwich and 1/2 an apple; some spaghetti; three graham crackers w/nutella; a small serving of brown rice and steamed veggies for dinner; and then I got home and had a couple of tortillas w/butter.
Calories, protein, water: unknowns.
Exercise: long steep high + running back; climbing a huge tree; running around the property; and playing around with the Boyfriend's siblings (all of them @ home are younger than him.

Laila: la la la.

I have a computer again :)

So today i got more exercise tan I have in a while. Went swimming for an hour, took the dog (an Akita...very big and very strong) out on a walk well make that two walks. I'm pretty beat.

As for food, all I can say is that I've done better.

So I am moving away in eactly 27 days. And right now it's scaring the crap out of me. Soo I indulged myself in some chocolate (good comfort food) and am now feeling better, thanks to some much needed friend-advice. ANYWAYS when I move, my posts on here will be extremely spiratic...gotta go out and live the college (FUN) life! Just warning ya.

I am planning on doing my 5K swim on the 4th of August. I'll definetly post on here how that all turns out.

Claire: HECK Yes!!!

Back in May when I first came back to WA, Anaya and I went to Victoria's Secret to get measured and all that jazz. Well today I went back to try on some lovely new bras. (TMI? Sorry!) I'm down another size! Went from a 40- to an 38- to a 36!!! WOOT!!! So when my next paycheck comes in I'm buying myself a new bra, which is like next week I think.

On a sad note, the Boyfriend is sick down in Cali and so he won't be coming back until Saturday morning.. poor guy.

Food-wise I haven't been keeping track lately. And I haven't been posting because our Internet has been really stupid lately. That's right, the Internet can be stupid. Also the next couple of days/evenings I'm going to be working lots (yes, I'm working from 10 to 10 on Saturday, how cruel, and yes, there are the lawful breaks included).

To be perfectly honest, today was alright. Hung out with Anaya and chilling. I want to go swimming so bad though. Like lap swimming, not playing around, but doing laps for a couple of hours.

Laila: I'm Baaaack

Just as a disclaimer, I have limited access to a compter, thus why my posts lately have been spiratic.

What a hectic week! Whew! I'm going going going. It's quite exhausted and I'm ready for the month of July to be OVER!!!

Anyways, guess what?? I went SWIMMING today!! Whoo! It's putting me back into that sane piece of mind that only swimming can do for me. Found out yesterday that I'll be racing the 5K (5000 meters...I'm guessing that'll be about 1.5 hours worth of swimming) the first week of August. Haven't gotten much pool time in lately with the schedule I've been holding, but I'm sure it'll all work out. After all, I am a distance swimmer. I will be training for the 10K later this fall. SOmething to look forward to.

Food: 1 protein bar, 1 pbj sandwich, 1 small bag doritos, 1 bowl mac & cheese.
Calories: 1450
Water: I'd say about 8 glasses
Exercise: Swimming for about 20 mins (FINALLY).

Tomorrow will be my last crazy day of the week. I'm hoping that this weekend will bring relaxation, swimming, tanning (?) and maybe a hike or two.

:)

Claire: Recovering from the Wedding!

I'm so glad I had today off! The wedding had to be one of the best I've ever been to! Between the fabulous bride, my lovable oldest brother, the antics of the rest, and the dancing for hours, it won my heart. Truly a fantastic event. I'm very happy for the two of them and wish them all the best! I love them so much.

Not much happening today besides the normal day-to-day stuff.

Food: waffle w/pb and jam; a pb and honey sandwich; a tall iced skinny vanilla latte; 2 scrambled eggs w/shredded low-fat cheddar cheese burrito; and a low-fat cheddar cheese quesadilla.
Calories: 1509
Protein: 56 g
Water: been chugging it all day!
Exercise: legs were a little sore from the hours spent walking in my high heels all day yesterday as well as dancing around in them till late at night, so not much happening exercise-wise today.

Got a surprise call from the Boyfriend earlier this evening. Bad news is that their car has broken down and is being fixed, therefore he's not arriving back here until late Thursday. :( Otherwise it was really good to talk with him and hear about how things are going and all. Every time we talk though I find myself more and more often being surprised and in a good-way ya know?

Well goodnight ya'll! I'm still coming down from the stress of the wedding, and shoot, that bridesmaid dress caused trouble for all us of bridesmaids. And it wasn't the fault of the bride by any means btw!! The stupid alterations place was the origin of all the problems. They 1) didn't sew in a clasp, button or anything for the bride's halter top dress, so her mom had to sew the dress straps together; 2) the alterations place didn't sew in the hooks for the bridesmaids' dresses to close either; and 3) every one's straps were too loose and so we had to jimmy-rig our dresses tighter with safety pins and fashion tape. I would never recommend that alterations place to ANYONE.

Laila: Prepping for another big week

Today was my resting day before this week ahead. It's been nice to just hang around and relax these past few days.

If anything, this housesitting adventure is teaching me that I don't have to eat as much as I'm accostumed to. There's not much around here to eat, so I'm rationing the food for the next week :)

Food: protein bar, pb&j sandwich, handful of dark chocolate Hershey's kisses, 1 bowl macaroni and cheese.
Water: about 10 glasses :) finally!
exercise: took the dog I'm staying with on a walk / run that lasted about 45 min or so (FINALLY got the exercise! Yes!)
Vitamin: no

Claire: Lovin' Today!

I've been having swimming withdrawals for a while now. Today Laila and I went to this sweet outdoor pool and had a blast! Must go there again soon! Now I've been to a tanning salon like one time before but since the wedding is tomorrow I thought I'd give it another shot. So we found this tanning place and once I got home my youngest brother said, "you look like you've been living in Hawaii!" Which means that it must have worked. :) But since I was hanging out with Laila and then came home to a big ol'bbq with friends and family I really didn't/couldn't keep track of my calories or foods today. But here's what I remember:

Food: pbj; 2 scrambled eggs with a 1/4 cup of low fat shredded cheddar cheese in a tortilla; a slice of cantaloupe; a chocolate special k protein bar, two chocolate chip Sunbelt granola bars, a light and fit peach yogurt, about a half dozen cherries; watermelon chunks and a slice of cantaloupe; more watermelon and some macaroni salad; a diet root beer and a half along with a good handful of chips with some salsa.

So I'm just gonna "guess" but I'm pretty sure I went WAY over today. :( No idea about my protein either.
Exercise: swimming around, laughing, some walking around, blah blah blah..

Tomorrow is the wedding! I still can't seem to wrap my head around the FACT that he's getting married! The first of us kids. I probably won't be posting anything tomorrow-just sayin', after all I'm leaving around noon, the wedding starts around 3pm and the reception is in the evening is bound to go late that night. Have a good day tomorrow- I know I will!

Oh yeah, almost forgot! I tried on one of Laila's new dresses and it's a size I thought would be too small, especially in the bust area and it's too big!!!! This means I've lost like two dress sizes now!!!! WOOOO-HOOO!!!!! (Yes, I'm that happy and excited about it! Who wouldn't be?)

Claire: The Wedding Weekend Begins

Today was the rehearsal followed by the rehearsal dinner/all-day event thing. Thankfully the location for the ceremony will be in the shade along a nearby river to keep things cool! And the after-rehearsal event was so much fun. We headed over to a local park on a river. We played softball, went swimming and ate some good grub!

Food: two scrambled eggs w/a light strawberry yogurt and a strawberry all-fruit Popsicle; scrambled eggs w/a little shredded cheddar cheese in a flour tortilla; lots of veggies, a handful of chips + mango salsa and dip; vegetarian taco salad and enchiladas, and mixed fruit; followed all that with a slice of apple pie w/whipped cream; came home and had another all-fruit strawberry Popsicle. Plus I had a few cups of lemonade and a virgin pina colada.
Calories: WAY OVER- but don't know how many, same with protein count too
Water: Definitely not-enough
Exercise: playing an intense game of softball and swimming in a freezing cold river (I was the only girl in the party swimming. How sad.)

Yesterday I was at work and didn't keep track. I know I went over then too, so two days in a row is bound to have some damage done. Hopefully it won't be too bad. :) Sadly while playing softball today I palmed the ball while being catcher and jacked up my thumb. :( Not happy about it. I also got hit in my shin too. Gonna have a pretty bruise there. LOL!

Also the Boyfriend called me this morning- a good way to wake up if I may say so. ;) Guess what? He's taking me to see Toby Keith's concert that's coming up!!!! Super excited about it!!!

Laila: Finally.

Finally an end to my hellish week. I am an eternal optimist and like to look on the bright side of things, but for me this past week was just horrible.

Nothing good came out of these past few days.

Perhaps I'm overstating it, but I have never been so stressed / on the run in my entire life.

And it's OVER!!! Well for the weekend atleast. Let's hope things start looking up or else my memories of my last five weeks in Vancouver won't be happy ones.

I haven't been able to have a moment to myself this week, do anything that felt like exercise which in turn affected my food choices. I'll just say this: I did bad. Hopefully things will get better. Or I will start to pull all of my hair out.

Food: 1 protein bar, 1 pbj sandwich, 1 cup yogurt, 1 package 100-calorie cheese-its, 1 chocolate chip cookie (notice that the number is not higher....I am gaining SOME self-control), 1 granola bar.

Water: Not enough
Vitamin: forgot
Exercise: of course not
Calories: 1350

Claire: I Can't Wait

For my brother's wedding to be over! I love them both, it's just this wedding has been so stressful for everyone. Shoes finally arrived today!!! They were supposed to come around 3 pm but decided to arrive around 9 pm. Grrr. Well shoes and dress are here at least. :)

Food: toasted low-fat mozzarella cheese sandwich; pbj sandwich; two homemade chocolate chip cookies; and finally a pbj sandwich for dinner.
Calories: 1520
Protein: 54.5 g
Water: need more
Exercise: I was speed walking everywhere I went at work.

Today has been really warm- not hot (in my opinion formed from spending a summer outside in Redding, CA). I really, really want to go swimming.

Laila: arghhhh!

So today is over.

It seems as the days go on, I keep asking myself the questions "REALLY??"
This schedule I'm on is officially kicking my butt. All I want is rest. But no.
ARGGGG.

I am in no way proud of my eating today.

I ended up being at work much longer than expected, with only an hour brake. So I headed to Wendy's (the closest food place around) and got a burger and fries. I had planned on working out later in the evening, but my friend invited me to her birthday dinner at the Olive Garden. How I miss the gym!!!! ( I realllllly do! Haven't been in WEEKS). So I went there and then on a couple arrends before cfomming home and finishing up some stuff for work tomorrow.

Food:
1 protein bar, 1 burger + small fry and diet soda from Wendys, 1 plate of 5-cheese ziti from the Olive Garden (plus 2 breadsticks).

Calories: off the charts I'm sure

Exercise: None. Again. I will go stir crazy if I can't get any soon....

Water: NOt nearly enough

Vitamin: yup

Laila: Needing a Change of Scenery....

Another day another dollar. With my schedule now, the weekdays are blending all together, kind of frustrating. But more housesitting this weekend! Yay!

I FINALLY got a chance to get in the pool today (to swim, not to teach lessons). It's been...oh atleast 3 weeks-ish since I've been. It sure felt good. I'm gearing up for a big meet the first weekend in August- going to try to tackle the 1650 again (66 lengths of the pool). So we'll see how that goes.

Food: 1 protein bar before work, a sandwich (BLT), 2 cups yogurt, I'd say about 4 cups of blueberries / strawberries / watermelon (not all at once, but spread out thru the day), 1 string cheese, 2 granola bars, 1 100-calorie ice cream bar.
Calories: 1590
Vitamin: Yes
Water: 6-ish glasses. I'm slackin
Exercise: 25 min swim. Not nearly enough, but it's better than nothing.

Tuesday, July 6

Claire: Well LA DE DA!

Bridesmaid dress is officially paid for, picked up and tried on! Even better? The dress doesn't need any alterations!!! When I first tried the sample on I think I liked it better. I don't like it so much now. Not as complementary as I previously believed, but oh well. But really cool thing is that I ordered the dress a size smaller and not only do I fit the dress, it's also a little big on me too! (I'm getting smaller!!!)

Food: toasted low-fat mozzarella cheese sandwich; 3 scrambled eggs; Tall Iced Skinny Vanilla Latte; a whole green bell pepper (so good!); a pbj sandwich; and finally a half-pbj sandwich after work tonight.
Calories: 1424
Protein: 76.5 g
Water: almost enough
Exercise: lots of walking around, lifting and picking up stuff at work.

Monday, July 5

Claire: Today Ended Very Well!

All I can say is my Boyfriend is super amazing, even when he's far away. Things started out a little stressful today, so I painted for some stress relief!I'm really liking how it's turning out.
Thankfully everything was resolved this evening. And no work today!!!! YAY! Plus on the scale I saw a new low too! How awesome is that?!

Food: a slice of toast w/two scrambled eggs; a low-fat toasted mozzarella cheese sandwich w/pineapple; pbj sandwich (big surprise right?); more pineapple; and a half-pbj for dinner.
Calories: 1301
Protein: 54.5 g
Water: almost enough
Exercise: LAZY day! Felt so good!

Laila: HAPPY 4TH!!

Well today turned out to be a really good day, despite having no prior plans.
Finished up housesitting, came home and mooched food from my parents (haha) when they had some people over. It was GREAT! Salmon and steak. Yummm. Then I finished off the day by spending the night oohing and ahhing over fireworks with my friend (greatest guy in the world). Even got a flower out of the whole deal. Overall, verrrry good end to an otherwise stressfull week.

Water: not enough :(
Vitamin: yes
Exercise: none. AGGGHHH it's killing me.
Food: 1 piece toast w/ pb, 1 cup yogurt, 1 banana, lunch/dinner consisting of fruit salad, salmon, and steak.

Claire: The 4th and Continued Traditions

I'm not sure how this has worked out, but every 4th of July since High School I've spent it working. Though there have been one or two when I was able to still make a few celebrations after my shifts ended, but alas not this time! But hey it's TIME and a HALF!!! Hope you had a good one!

Food: pbj for breakfast, lunch and dinner, plus a half pbj for a snack; a slice of cantaloupe and two little slices of pineapple too.
Calories: 1570
Protein: 45 g
Water: enough
Exercise: lots of walking at work- didn't stop moving around the entire 8+ hours. :) Very tired.

Night ya'll!!! I'm excited, I have tomorrow off! YAY!!! BTW my shoes for the wedding are on their way, I'm trying on and getting my bridesmaid dress on Tuesday too.

Claire: Yep.

Work. Family BBQ. Movie "Date Night" w/old friend.

Food: pbj w/banana; 1/2 pbj @ work; 1/2 pbj @ home; small salad (avocado, romaine lettuce, black olives, yellow bell peppers) watermelon, cantaloupe, and pineapple.
Calories: 1203-1290
Protein: 32.7-40 g
Water: not enough
Exercise: walking around @ work a bunch!

I feel like such an @$$. My brother's fiance has asked me a while ago to be one of her bridesmaids. I said yes and ordered my dress. I just haven't tried it on since, nor have I picked it up yet. Plus I JUST now, literally, ordered my shoes because they're only to be found on-line. Did I mention I forgot her bachelorette party too?? YEAH I'm a horrible sister-in-law. I didn't mean to forget, I got caught up being with my brothers again I didn't realize that her party was the same night as the softball game. I feel horrible. She is so sweet and nice and I'm blowing this! Thankfully the shoes will be arriving like Wednesday. I'm getting the dress on Tuesday morning, and hopefully it won't need any alterations. I have no idea how I'm going to fix things with her though. I mean I'd be pretty pissed if some one did that stuff to me. Oh and the wedding is in a week, to the day. Between finanicing the dress and shoes and transportation, I should have politely said that I couldn't be a bridesmaid. What the hey was I thinking?!? Yes, I know, I'm pretty low. UGH. I'm so sorry. I really do care. Honest, I've been avoiding asking for help with getting the stuff because I want to do it myself, and tha hasn't been working out for me....

Laila: A MUch Needed Day of Fun

Today I went hiking to a local spot with a great friend. It was fun, scary at times, but let's just say I think I've caught up on my exercise quota for the next week or two :) I'm keeping this post short and simple because I'm so tired I am about to pass out. Good day, but a very long day, as well.

Water: 10 glasses
Exercise: about a 6 hour hike (it was epic)
Food: 1 piece toast w/ peanutbutter, a bowl of peaches, 1 pg & j sandwich before the hike, 1 granola bar on the hike, a bowl of mac & cheese, small bowl of strawberry ice cream to celebrate our defeat over the mountain :)
Calories: 1540

Claire: Today and Yesterday

Quick update:
On Thursday I worked from 12-4 doing mind-numbing work (not complaining, merely stating a fact). And while doing said work, the Boyfriend calls me. I listened to the voice mail during break and he had gotten off work early and was hoping to hang out. Apparently he drove all the way to my house (it's like an 45 min. drive) to discover, lo and behold, I'm at work. He then calls from the house (his cell phone isn't functioning right now) to ask if he could pick me up when my shift ends. So now he and my dad are going to go shooting, yes, plans have been made. And he's also met my second brother too. CRAZY stuff.

My oldest brother and his fiance arrived from Utah and came to visit me at work too. It was great to see them! We chatted for a while and Brendan suggested that the Boyfriend, him and I all hang out after I get off and when he finishes with his errands. So the Boyfriend picks me up, I tell him about Brendan wanting to meet up and this guy actually wants to go. Like, he was all "Yeah, we should meet up with him! That sounds like fun!" I'm not joking, the Boyfriend was eager to meet another one of my brothers. After chilling for a while and having a Jamba Juice we went to Starbucks and spent an hour or so with Brendan. Conclusion- Brendan thinks Boyfriend is pretty good, and Boyfriend wants to hang out some more with my brothers. Brendan had to leave and Boyfriend and I just spent the rest of the evening chilling and talking. Boyfriend has a wedding in Cali to be at, so this was his last day in WA for a week or so.

Today I went to work earlier this morning and was there for the majority of the day. Came home and eventually my WHOLE family came over too. There's 5 boys, my dad and me. That's a bunch of people in a not-so-big-house. We all went out to meet with some of Brendan's friends for a spontaneous softball game. Brian (brother just after me) brought his softball-star girlfriend and we were able to make some pretty decent teams. Afterwards we all drove back to one of the guy's houses and spent the rest of the evening talking about the Mariners, eating food and eventually playing Pictonary. It was GREAT getting to spend time with my entire family! Casey, (the bro before me) told the funniest stories about teaching at one of the state colleges. And Brendan's friends were hilarious! A VERY, VERY good day today. Boyfriend even got a different cell phone and finally started to text, about freaking time! :)

Food: two slices of bread w/pb; pbj sandwich; two slices of watermelon; two scrambled eggs; a slice of cheese pizza and a slice of watermelon, and a small bite of rice krispy treat w/chocolate on top, and a slip of root bear.
Calories: between 1208 and 1300
Protein: I don't know.
Exercise: softball- sprints between bases, batting, catching and throwing. Plus LOTS of walking around at work.

Also my pair of new jeans that I got a few weeks ago- they're getting baggy on me!!

Laila: Another Update

THis week has been the most hectic / insane week I've ever had.

I haven't made it to the gym in about a week or so, and the laziness is starting to catch up with me.

Here's my review of yesterday:
-Was at work for 9 hours straight
-Didn't get a chance to eat for those entire 9 hours
-Came home and stuffed my face.

Today was a bit better. My food consisted of:
1 cup coffee, 1 slice cold pizza (best breakfast food), 1 ham / cheese sandwich, handful of Ruffles potato chips, 1 bowl cocoa puffs w/ milk.
Water: about 6 glasses
Vitamin: yes
Exercise: none

I'm supposedly hiking tomorrow, though. That should make up for my severe lack in exercise these past few days.

Wednesday, June 30

Claire: I'm Loving This Summer!

Between hanging out with Anaya and laying out in the sunshine drinking a Smirnoff's Ice and listening to 90s rock/pop and having dinner with longtime best-friend, Jessica at her new apartment- today was great. So relaxing and summery!

Anaya and I went to do some window shopping and we popped into Dress Barn (what a horrible name, right?). There I tried on two different tops and for the first time in my adult life I fit into Medium tops!!!! (And they weren't from the plus size section either!) I still can't believe it! YAY! Also I fit into some clothes from my JUNIOR year in HIGH SCHOOL!!!! Remember how I had mentioned a few weeks ago that I had found a box of clothes from high school? At that time I could fit into like 3 of the 5 shirts in the box. Well I can fit into ALL of them now!!!!! Happy dance!! WOOT!!!!!!!!!!!! Even my shorts from high school are really loose on me, I mean like "pants on the ground" loose! YAY! WOOT-WOOT!!! (Seriously, this has been one awesome "I'm actually losing weight- not just numbers on the scale!")

Speaking of the scale- this morning I've finally broken past the last number I've been at for this last several days! Not by much but it still counts!

Food: watermelon and cantaloupe w/a slice of bread w/pb; a Smirnoff's Ice; cottage cheese and pbj; cheese ravioli and strawberry lemonade.
Calories: 1292
Protein: 34 g (way low)
Water: not enough
Exercise: not much of anything besides walking around with Anaya.

Tuesday, June 29

Laila: Another Day

Well today I spent all day at work.

Whew. I'm glad it's over, but it's going to start all over again tomorrow.

Food:
2 cups yogurt, 1 footlong Subway sandwich (spicy italian w/ American cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, pickles and olives), 1 bag cheddar sunchips, 1 granola bar.

Calories: ??
Water: Not nearly enough. I'd say around 6 glasses
Exercise: Chasing kids all day.

Claire: The Ipod In My Head

that's the way I describe the fact that there is nearly always a song playing in my mind! Right now it's a song called "Robots In Love." Very funny song.

Went to work earlier today only to find out I wasn't scheduled to work, so not the best way to start things. Also cleared up the front yard of the major weeds and unwanted plants with my bro, Aaron. He's a cool kid.

Food: 1/2 pbj sandwich; two slices of cantaloupe; two left over bread sticks from the night before; 3 scrambled eggs; and pb on two slices of bread and a piece of watermelon (the taste of summer!)
Calories: 1220
Protein: 49 g
Water: lots of it :)
Exercise: 7 mi walk total of going to and coming back from work with a short ten minute break where I discovered the walk was entirely unnecessary.

New phone arrived too! I got myself a new gadget to figure out!! :)

Claire: Super Awesome Surprising Day!

All I can say is today was soooo GOOD!! I spent the morning working on a painting- which is one of the best ways a day can begin. The guy I've been seeing and I spent the rest of the day and evening out. He is a sweetheart. We went to the Olive Garden for dinner and had a fantastic time being complete dorks. Honestly we weren't planning on being together for more than an hour or two, but we ended up being out and about from 2pm till 12:30am. We got to talk and just be, ya know? And you know what else? He said I'm beautiful, not cute, but beautiful. He can certainly make me blush!

Food: two eggs on a piece of toast; pbj sandwich with a slice of cantaloupe; dinner at the Olive Garden- minestrone soup w/half a salad and A (that's right only 1!) bread stick. :)
Calories: 1137
Protein: Olive Garden didn't have that information available
Water: Not enough
Exercise: ran and walked around everywhere with Boyfriend.

Monday, June 28

Laila: Good / Crazy / Exhausting / Rewarding day.

Oh my goodness.

It was all I could do just to function at work today. Taught morning and afternoon lessons (teaching about 60 kids a day). I'll be doing this for the next two weeks. Whew.

The one plus to this work schedule is that I don't worry about overeating. In fact work now takes all the energy that I have, so when I come home, I'm wayyy too tired for food.

Plus the money is always a plus :)

I was in the chlorine for a good chunk of the day. And I must say that dry / chlorinated skin + sunburn= OUCH. I've practically been bathing in Aloe Vera lotion. But that's beside the point.

Vitamin: Yes

Water: I'd say about 8 glasses....need more. It'll be a miracle if my voice can last the entire week

Exercise: Didn't get to the gym, but I've had my workout for the day!

Calories: 1417 (guessing w/ the animal crackers). Wow. That's pretty low for me.

Food: 2 pieces toast w/ pb, 1 banana, salad w/ cheese, tomatoes, and dressing (we're running short of vegetables), 1 hamburger w/ bun, 1 apricot, 2 cups yogurt, a handful of animal crackers at work

ALSO. Got done housesitting for the past two weeks, stepped on the scale last night afraid of the results (housesitting and good eating habits never seem to work well together), and I didn't gain A SINGLE POUND!!! And I'd only gotten to the gym about twice that entire time. Very good news.

Plus I got a new swimsuit yesterday (forgot to add this last night), and if I may say so myself, I look pretty dang good :) I'm so proud of how far I've come. And to top it all off, a friend at work today said it looks like I'm slimming down (I hadn't seen her in a couple weeks). YAY for affirmation! Plust I'm walking around in these short-shorts (that I am sometimes uncomfortable in) like it's no problem. I love it!!

Sunday, June 27

Claire: Tired but Happy

My back is so burned from tanning today! Like "Wow!" Was called in early for work, yay for more hours and it was pretty crazy there- messes everywhere. I can't believe that the weekend is over, it seems like it just started!

Food: 2 scrambled eggs on a slice of toast and a slice of cantaloupe on the side; pbj sandwich before work and a pbj sandwich at work (getting so SICK of pbj!); a slice of cantaloupe and a little less than 8 oz. of raspberry yogurt.
Calories: 1342
Protein: 45
Water: not enough.
Exercise: constant walking/moving at work. I should wear a pedometer just to see how far I end up walking on my shifts.

I can't wait my new phone is coming soon!!!

Laila: Getting ready for [another] crazy week

Well these past two days have been my lazy days. Laying out in the sun. Attempting to turn my Norweigan whiteness into a tan. Right now it's at the burn stage. No fun at all.

Food: 1 protein bar, 1 pb&j sandwich, cheesburger w/ just the bun (home BBQ'd if that makes a difference), 1 bowl strawberries, 1 bowl fruit salad, 1 cup yogurt.
Exercise: absolutely NONE
Vitamin: yes
Water: about 12 glasses....it was all I could do to not get dehydrated from the heat.

These next two weeks I'm heading into will be crazy. I will be working from nearly 10AM to about 7PM about 4 days a week. Whew. Makes me tired just thinking about it. One thing I am concerned with is the amount of exercise I'll be able to get this summer. I'll be working so much that I'm sure at the end of each day I'll be exhausted. Not that my work isn't exercise: I mean teaching kids how to swim for 3 hours on end is a bit of a workout. BUt looking ahead to this meet in early August is making me nervous, just with the amout of pool time I'll be able to have. But we'll see how that all goes.

Updates to come if I can survive the craziness :)

Claire: The End of One Sweet Week!

Laila and I spent the day chasing the sun, trying to get tan. Our goal of getting a little sun didn't really work out. We met up with the guy I've gone on a few dates with, he brought his little brother and his son, (this kid is so adorable). We had lunch and played around a local park. Since I drove with Laila and she had to babysit, he offered to drive me home. That man is so sweet, really.

Getting home was particularly funny because we caught my dad napping on the couch in front of the TV, I've never seen my dad look so surprised. You could tell he wasn't sure about what was going on! The look of sheer puzzlement was hilarious! So the introductions were made and after he left all my dad could say was, "He sure is tall! Does he shoot?" After telling Dad he does shoot, he tells me to invited him to join him for some skeet shooting sometime, this really threw me for a loop.

Another cool note: I'm officially down 14 pounds!!!!! And I just ordered a phone upgrade!! YAY!! All-around one SWEET week!

Food: a piece of harder-than-life toast w/pb; Spicy Anasazi Bean Burger w/cheese; raspberry yogurt; cantaloupe; pbj sandwich and a couple of baby carrots.
Calories: between 1350-1442
Protein: around 50 g
Water: lots, been drinking it all evening!
Exercise: lots of chasing the little kid around the playground! Lots of fun! Plus scaling a hillside, being a ninja going across a river and maybe a mile or so "hike" looking for a place near the river.

Claire: The last two days

So Thursday was the second date and it was so much fun- I really had a FANTASTIC time!! We had dinner and then went to seriously, the best movie theater around. We watched The A-Team, what a cheesy action film- it was pretty good too! Afterward we explored his town and enjoyed the rest of the evening around one of the local lakes. Gotta say this guy is pretty great. :)

Food: 2 Eggo waffles w/pb and sliced banana; popcorn and a beer; salad (no dressing), vegetarian lasagna (I could only eat like a quarter of it, it was massive) and sour dough bread. (Yummy!) And a banana too.
Calories: 1402 (or less)
Protein: 32 or less
Water: LOTS of it!
Exercise: played on some local school's swings and lots of walking around in high heels no less, I think that counts more right?

Today
Food: 2 Eggo waffles w/pb; carrots; two eggs; two full servings of lentil soup; and 8 oz of raspberry yogurt
Calories: around 1135 or 1200
Protein: 47-51
Water: yep!!
Exercise: dancing around my room blasting some sweet music!

Thursday, June 24

Laila: Whew.

Today has got to be the most exhausting day I've had in a long long time. Spent nearly all my day at work (10 AM to 7ish PM). Most of the day was spent outdoors in that glorious blazing sun. And guess what: I GOT TAN!! Woot.

I found myself lacking on serious energy (food) and am quite impressed with myself to have made it the entire day really on a bagel and bowl of cherrios.

Before work this morning: 1/2 bagel with about a tbsp cream cheese
Between shifts: a small bowl of cherrios, 1 banana
After work: 6-inch sandwich from Subway, 1 bag wheat thins, 1 diet coke, 1 banana

That may seem like a lot of food, but granted I spent nearly 9 hours out in the sun. Got about an hour 1/2 of swimming in plus 30 min of playing water polo. Pretty intense!

Took the dog for a late night walk with a friend. Mainly uphill for about 20 min or so.

Needless to say: I'M POOPED!

However, as I look back on my day I'm proud of the progress I've made. Coming home from work I knew I should go out to eat, mainly because the house I'm staying at doesn't really have much on-the-go food. Everything takes a while to make. Normally that wouldn't be an issue. But I figured I'd better save my sanity and just let Subway make my food for me. I was tempted to go to maybe a cheaper burger joint....but I resisted. It's good knowing I've filled up on good food all day.

I am now going to sleep. Wishing I didn't have to wake up for about a week or so. But alas that is not possible. Oh well. Overall: good day!

Wednesday, June 23

Claire: Bright and Beautiful Morning!

Everything started out pretty well. I had done some of my laundry the previous night and had sadly, put my work clothes in the wrong pile forcing me to catch a ride to work :) . On the way there I got a sweet phone call from the guy I have a date with tomorrow night. Apparently he's a morning person who gets up naturally around 5 am! Crazy, just crazy. Work was pretty good- people were happy, cheerful and nice with me! (Hey things can get messy working in retail!) Came home and blasted some music because I could and no one else was home and busted out my dance moves!!! Seriously so much fun!

Food: two Eggo waffles w/pb and sliced banana; a light pbj sandwich; some baby carrots and a lasagna Florentine; and finally 3 scrambled eggs.
Calories: 1225
Protein: 52.1
Water: Work makes it difficult to get enough of it, plus I left my water bottle at home :(

I've been on a happy-high all day now. Plus, like I promised, here's my news: I'm at an all-time weight low! Officially down 11 or 12 pounds!!! YEEEAAAAHHHHH!!!!

Tuesday, June 22

Claire: Now Summer Arrives!

That's right! I got some sun!!! I spent most of the day hanging out with one of my friends, Anaya, tanning in her backyard. It felt fantastic to be outside and the sun shinning.

Food: two Eggo waffles w/pb and apple slices; a glass of soy milk with lasagna Florentine; about a two cups of popped popcorn; a pbj sandwich.
Calories: 1257
Protein: 44.5 g
Water: not enough.
Exercise: no, not much...

Tomorrow I work earlier, which means I'm gonna have to get up RIDICULOUSLY early to walk there. And I have some awesome news, but you won't get it till tomorrow- I need it to be confirmed first!! :) Super excited over here!!!

Laila: GOOD Day!

Well today was a very good / somewhat crazy / productive day on my end. I think it was the sun that motivated me to do all of this work today.

I'm coaching a water polo camp at the gym where I work, and today (it was the 2nd day) was a great day! After a quick pep talk with the kids about learning how to be civil with each other, as well as learning a few basics of the game, they did awesome! And I must say I love coaching! I've been in the coaching / swimming atmosphere in a pool setting for about 6 years now and I must say I have yet to grow tired of it :)

If an hour and 1/2 of pacing up and down the pool wasn't enough, I went to swim practice for 90 minutes. I had a good hard workout. Came home pooped. But of course, there's more. I had yet to give the dog her walk today, and decided to embark on about a 2 mile or so walk (up a HUGE hill if I might add) at about 9PM. Not the smartest, because about 20 min into it I realized that the setting sun was catching up with us. And I refused to be out there alone in the dark. So we walked fast. Made it in about 40 min or so (granted I was wearing flip flops). So again. Good day.

Food: bowl Special K w/ strawberries, 1 apple, 1 deli sandwich from Walmart, a handful of fish crackers, 10 or so wheat thin crackers.
Exercise: see above. I do feel quite tuckered out. So I'd say I did good.
Water: 10 glasses. Yay for sunny weather

Monday, June 21

Claire: 1st Day of Summer!

Hope the weather finally catches up to the season! We need sunshine here! Today I got the follow up call from the guy I went on the date with. A second date is coming Thursday night- pretty excited and a little nervous about it too. I need to work on dressing up all cute for these kinds of things! Like doing my hair all sweet like.

Food: blueberry waffles w/pb, a glass of soy milk and a peaches cup; 3 egg whites scrambled and baby carrots; a lasagna Florentine; baby carrots; and a toasted cheese sandwich.
Calories: 1251
Protein: 60 g
Water: lots of it!!
Exercise: nope, lazy day.

Also found a box of t-shirts from like high school and early college- I had stored them because they were too small to wear and guess what? Three out of the five shirts fit!!! YAY!!!!
(Another cool note: the guy told me I'm pretty- completely made my day!) :) I'm such a cheese ball!

Sunday, June 20

Claire: I Feel Like A Zombie

Minus the wanting to eat people's brains of course, and being a non-human. I was asked to come into work early today so I did and then I was asked if I could stay late. How late? Till closing of course. So I had a 9 HOUR shift today. I'm beat. YAY- for a better paycheck though!

Food: basically had peanut butter and strawberry jam sandwiches all day today, because I 1) live with my carnivorous family and 2) didn't have $ to buy food at work. I did have a Yukon White Bean and Basic Burger from Burgerville (so good- especially after so much pbj!!)
Calories: 1435
Protein: 42 g
Water: more than yesterday.
Exercise: speed walking to work (3.5 miles in 45-50 minutes!)

At work they had a materials out in the break room for people to make their dads a father's day card. I did and it is so cheesy! He loved it. :)

Also remember how last weekend I binged and totally reverted to my old ways? Remember how I gained like 5.6 pounds? Well this week I'm back down to where I was before that odious weekend! The speed walking to and from work plus better eating habits does pay off.

Laila: Better Day

Well today was a better day than yesterday. Actually DID stuff today (shocker).

I got to the gym for the first time in a week and did cardio for about 45 min and lifting about 30 min. Got to train a little with a friend who works there. I sure did miss that endorphine "high" this past week of little working out.

This upcoming week for me will be crazy. I'm "counseling" a camp at the gym I work at for a water polo camp. I know the basic idea of the game, and have played it only a couple times. So it'll be interesting how that all plays out. This also means that I will be LIVING at work this week (and of course work and the house I'm at couldn't be farther apart). So I'm beginning to make and bag up my meals for the week. The bright side is, that with all this activity going on I won't have time to overeat!

Water: bout 8 glasses
Vitamin: still no. I need to go get those
Calories: absolutely no idea

Saturday, June 19

Claire: Smiles!

Today was one pretty dang good day. Got a call this morning from the guy who asked me out, to set up the details for today. So the plan was getting together for a lunch date and maybe hangout a little after. To sum up what happened: lots of talking, laughing and hanging out. It went from a lunch date to an all-day date. And it looks like I'll be seeing more of him soon. :)

Food: peaches, oatmeal w/pb and a 1/2 glass of soymilk; Peach perfection small Jamba Juice; Garden Patty 6 in. Subway Sandwich.
Calories: 1073
Protein: 42.1 g
Water: not enough.
Exercise: walked around lots probably a couple of miles, and laughing- lots and lots of laughing!

Claire: A Surprise Perk

Tonight was the last day of training- well not anymore I have a "formal training" session left that they tacked on today. Basically I have to do an online training session and take a couple of quizzes. Therefore on Sunday I have an extra two hours of work- yay for more pay!

Well tonight I went in like normal and met my "trainer" (makes me sound like a dog being trained- lame) and while I was waiting for her to finish some things I started talking to a guest while he waited in line, just some small talk- the movie he was buying, my new job, etc. After a little bit I went to go straighten up some displays as my trainer was still busy. About five or ten minutes later the guy I had been talking to earlier comes over and asks me, in a kind of shy way, if I was free this weekend for a date. I'm a busy girl- I've got work, friends, and running to all fit in, I told him that it depends on the day. He asked me when I was free and so come Saturday night I have a date with a really cute guy. (BTW- I promise to be careful!)

Food: two eggs, cereal w/soymilk, and a banana; nectarine and baby carrots; pbj for lunch; 1/2 pbj for snack; and pb for after work (nothing else in the house)
Calories: 1557 (a little high, but within my range)
Protein: 60.1
Water: 48 oz. (need more!)
Exercise: walked to work- 3.5 miles, 54 minutes
*Goal for tomorrow- lower body workout and 4 mi run!

Laila: Day ?

I've quit counting the days on here. I keep losing track.

Well guess what....I'M SHRINKING!!!! (in a good way)
I went to JCP tonight for some retail therapy (haha) and tried on a floor length summer-y dress that on the rack I did not think would look good on me. Not only did it look good, it looked GREAT! I'm definetly gaining more confidence to try new types of clothes that I normally wouldn't go for. Good stuff.

Still house-sitting. Eating healthy is not easy ( a lot of frozen dinners). Soo the calories kind of slipped by me today. Plus I embarked on a journey of making a pizza-sized cookie covered in marshmallows and chocolate with a friend (don't worry, I didn't eat any. I just love making this junk and handing it off for others to consume). The cookie turned out as a success if I may say so myself.

Water: 8 glasses
Exercise: None. Today was my lazy day and I enjoyed every minute of it. (Believe me, if you had to teach 30 kiddos how to swim in the matter of 3 hours you'd understand!!)

Friday, June 18

Claire: Agggg!

today I was feeling the pressure from my dad to get a job where I'm higher up than @ my current position- which I agree with, I also know that I just can't seem to find one right now. I kinda wish he'd back off, I'm not sure exactly what I'd like to do. I want to have a career that allows me to be creative, helps other people in a meaningful way and will challenge me both intellectually and creatively. Oh and pays well too.

Ok, update:
Food: egg, cereal w/soymilk, a nectarine and a banana; Iced Skinny Vanilla Latte; PBJ sandwich and baby carrots; two eggs, tortilla and a little bit of cheddar cheese; lentil soup and corn leftovers from last night with a piece of cheesy bread.
Calories: approximately 1650-1700 (WAY too high!)
Water: 83.6 oz (having a water bottle on hand make this so much easier)
Exercise: walked the 3.5 miles to work and while was at work I was constantly moving!
Protein: approximately 61.6g - 65.6 g

On a happier note- today was pretty good! I hung out with one of my bros, Aaron, and had a good conversation with my older bro, Casey. Plus it was a rain free day today!!!

Thursday, June 17

Laila: Another Day

I am currently housesitting for a family friend, and quite frankly there is a lack of healthy food in this house. I've done the best I can to eat somewhat healthfully, but of course I am lacking. I didn't have access to count the calories today, but here's a report of what I've eaten:
1 bowl lucky charms, 1 ham & cheese sandwich (w/ mayo), a handful of goldfish crackers, 1 bowl honey nut cherrios, 1 bagel w/ cream cheese.
Vitamin: don't have them with me
water: fell short, about 6 glasses today....though I am happy to report that since my stay here I've had FAR more milk than I usually do.
Exercise: attempted to get the dog out on a run today, which ended up in about a 40 min walk, also 1 hour of swimming. Today at practice, I tried breastrstroke- used to be my favorite stroke before my knee screwed up. Well tonight I tried it and felt GREAT!!! Yay!

Wednesday, June 16

Claire: Refusing to Give Up!

After the repercussions of this weekend, er early week, I'm back! You've no doubt heard the cliche "Weight loss (life, whatever) is a journey." Well this traveler isn't quitting on her journey! (Am I a dork or what?) I picked up on my calorie counting, water guzzling, and exercising plan. And it makes a difference- I genuinely feel better today. Especially because I don't feel lazy! I have energy. Gotta give props to making healthier choices even though it can be difficult.

Food: egg, cereal w/soymilk; banana and a pbj sandwich; a nectarine w/cereal and soymilk; lentil soup w/broccoli and a side of fresh corn; and a snack of some almond butter.
Calories: 1312
Water: 76 oz.
Exercise: walked 2.5 miles, ran 1.3 miles; 4 sets of 15 w/5lb hand weights: front and lateral raises, Arnold/shoulder presses, bent over flies, full and hammer curls, kickbacks w/palms towards me and palms forward, and chair dips.

Claire: Truth Be Told

Like Laila said, we hung out a bunch this weekend. But honestly, I choose to abandon my healthy choices this weekend. And I'm ashamed about it. Here I am trying to live a healthier life and make better choices as well as the fact I'm doing this with Laila and then I come up with the "great idea" of getting ice cream and making a cake?!? I let my stress and frustrations derail me. I don't know why this happens, but it's like I sabotage myself every time. I get to the same point in my weight-loss and it stalls for a little bit and I go off, by %$# choice! I hate it....

I didn't count today and haven't done any exercise for a WHILE. Been eating junk too. I won't let this be like "every other time" because I'm going to stick with it, I won't let this temporary setback keep me from success. I know, without a doubt, that I can do this, that I can reach my goals.

So starting tomorrow (technically today now) I'm going back to counting my calories, exercising daily, and keeping track of my water too. I need to set up a reward system or something for the little goals that I achieve. Right now I'm just really really mad about the stupid decisions I made this weekend. I had lost 11 pounds and now I'm back up 5.6 pounds. Thankfully I still fit into my new jeans and my old pants are all still too big. :)

L: The last three days

Sunday, Monday and Tuesday.

Well, Sunday Claire was over and we had a campout in the backyard (way fun, kind of like a flashback to the 6th grade). However, along with that came a cake, a tub of ice cream and a whole lotta frosting. Needless to say counting went out the window that day.

Same story with Monday, just about.

Today was a new day: still have no idea what the calorie count was.
BUT I managed to get to the pool today, only a 30 minute swim though. I'm kinda low on the whole motivation to exercise. Hopefully that'll pick up soon.

Sunday, June 13

Laila: Day 33

Good day today. Got to spend time with great friends (most of which we spent laughing our butts off....we're so cool).

Food: special k cereal, 1 banana, 1 cup yogurt, 1 cookie-pizza piece, i omelet (eggs, cheese, tomatoes and pepeprs), 1 granola bar, 1 SMALL frosty after my hike this morning. I ate more....but I didn't keep track.
Calories: don't know.
Water: 10 glasses
Vitamin: yes
Exercise: 90 min hike this morning with my dog.

Saturday, June 12

Claire: A Very Happy Day

First day at my new job: the guy training me came late, I was "assigned" to another cashier and she was really cool and helpful! She showed me a few things and oversaw me for a little and then I was on my own and it was really easy and smooth. I gotta say the time flew by pretty quickly too, it was so busy there! And guess what? It was SUNNY today! Not just you could see the sun, but it was warm, almost hot even! On my walk home I even got a funny tan from wearing a short sleeve shirt. Follow that all up with hanging out with Laila and Anaya and it was near non-stop laughter and amazing moments! BTW- if you want to make a bonfire make sure you have some wood around first, our one of many fails today while attempting to make s'mores! And when making ridiculous comments about certain pedestrians, make sure the car windows are rolled up- they may hear you otherwise. LOL! Today was a practically perfect summer day: friends, laughter, sunshine, wise-cracks, and being outside!

Food: pbj for breakfast w/a glass of soymilk, pbj for lunch w/a light peach yogurt, apple, carrots, two s'mores, marshmallows, a few chocolate chips, two little burritos, and a pbj to finish the day. (There is almost no food in my house beside pbj- need to go SHOPPING)
Calories: I don't really know, I just know it was way over...
Protein: your guess is as good as mine
Water: need more of it
Exercise: walked 3.5 miles home from work, walked around the Columbia River, played some volleyball passing, and tons of laughter (it works your ab muscles lots!).

Claire: Day 34

Got to say that today has been another crap day. I woke up from a terrifying dream in which Jaws trying to eat me while I hung on for dear life from a bridge that had collapsed. (I'm so terrified of sharks, it was a horrible dream). This is never a good start for a day. I did get to go shopping for my work clothes, which is a very good thing!

Food: I don't know, subway, pbj? and a strawberry yogurt and some other stuff...
Calories: didn't count today. (Stress is a HUGE factor here)
Water: trying to get more in
Exercise: don't ask

Frankly, I am stressed about starting a new job. I'm supposed to be training with some guy but I don't know where I'm supposed to meet him or what's the hey-diddly is going on. I'm stressed about working at a job that's only part time and isn't getting me any closer to any of the things I would like to do for a career. I'm stressed because of all of this and more.

Positive things:
I have a job
I have food and a home and family and a few friends
I have good health and clothing, a bed and freedom
(There is a lot to be thankful Claire, COME ON)

Friday, June 11

Laila: Day 32

Yesterday I went shopping as a reward to myself for finishing up school. I tried on a dress that normally I wouldn't take to- more form fitting, and accentuating the curves more than I used to. I was tempted to fall back into my comfort zone and get a sundress (nothing against sundresses, but I have about 4 right now). Anyways it feels good to shop out of the comfort zone a little bit and to wear something that I'm not quite used to. Plus it fit perfectly. Retail therapy is such a good thing :)

Today's update:
Calories: 1600
Exercise: None today
Vitamin: Yes
Water: 8 glasses

Thursday, June 10

Laila : Days 30 & 31

So classes finished for me today at the community college I'm attending...the next time I'll be in school will be in Colorado!! Yippe!

Yesterday I had 1610 calories (I know, I went over), and sadly I didn't keep the list on which all of the food that I ate I had written down.
So for day 30:
Calories: 1610
Vitamin: No
Water: 9 glasses
Exercise: None :(

TODAY! I did keep track of what I ate. Here goes.
Food:
1 bowl Special K cereal, 1 granola bar, salad (with cherry tomatoes, cheese, eggs and ranch dressing), 1 bag 100-calorie cereal, 2 grahm crackers w/ 1 tbsp peanut butter, 1 patty (I'm not sure if that's the right term) cooked chicken w/ green beans.
Calories: 1573 (back on track!)
Vitamin: forgot again
Water: didn't keep track of this today.
Exercise: good 90 min swimming.

I also learned of an ENORMOUS goal to work towards. I will have a swim meet this August (yes, before the move to CO). I did this race last year and set a record for my age group, and I am working hard to getting back into shape to possibly set a new personal best in the 1500 meter freestyle! This gives me a concrete goal to work towards...I always seem to do better with these as opposed to "I want to lose this many pounds in this much time". So that'll give me more incentive to get into shape. Plus, I will be doing a 10K swim (that's a LONG way in the swimming world) later this September. Yet another goal!
:)

Claire: Day 33 Frustration

Went off track today. Was doing really well until I got super bored....

Foot: oatmeal w/pb and a glass of soymilk, a pbj sandwich, a burrito, baby carrots, tortilla pbj style, lasagna Florentine, three more tortillas, and another two w/ butter and cinnamon sugar (instead of cinnamon rolls).
Calories: 1665-1800??? I honestly don't know.
Water: 10 glasses in!
Exercise: I was lazy... grr! WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME????

I'm so frustrated right now. I felt half awake the whole freaking day and felt that it was ok to binge. It's NOT ok to binge! EVER. I'm a little stressed about starting my new job, plus the fact I have to go out some how and get new clothes for my uniform. Plus friend issues. Today has been stressful and boring and downright no good and I chose to sabotage myself on top of it all... Great.

Wednesday, June 9

Claire: D 32, More Changes!

I have a drawer of shirts and in the bottom of that drawer are a few shirts that I don't wear much anymore because, they're a little tighter fitting and I look "lumpy" in them. LOL! For some reason I tried one of them on today. A purple 3/4 sleeve number. I may not be exactly where I want to be, but the shirt fits again. And that is pretty dang great to me! :-) I also noticed that my most of my t-shirts are too big. I'm really excited about these changes!

First day of work is this Saturday too! Wish me luck!

Food: oatmeal w/pb and a glass of soymilk, apple, 2 eggs w/2 slices of toast, a small hand full of peanuts, a light strawberry yogurt, a lasagna Florentine, and a tb of Almond Butter.
Calories: 1470
Protein: 65.5 g
No vitamin. :(
Water: I'm noticing that I've been drinking less and less of it. Gonna go back to counting!
Exercise: 4 sets of 15 reps- front and lateral raises, bent over fly, Arnold/shoulder press, full and hammer curls, kickbacks w/palms towards me and w/palms forward, and chair dips. My left foot/ankle is bothering me today so I went on a longer walk with one of my friends- 3.8 miles. I'm really hoping that if I just give it some rest I'll be fine.

Claire: Day 31

I just double checked my calendar to see how long I've been doing this thing "officially." 31 DAYS! That has to be a record for me sticking with changing my eating habits, regularly exercising and all! WOO!!

Food: oatmeal w/pb, soymilk and a light peach yogurt, a half pbj sandwich, an iced skinny latte, 2 Reese's Peanut Butter cups, and a lasagna Florentine.
Calories: 1340
Protein: 55 g
Exercise: ran 3.5 miles

Today I had my new job's orientation and during our break they set out this HUGE bowl of candy. I mean beastly big bowl, filled to the top with Reese's, snack/bite size Hersey bars, Whoppers, and more. Normal I would have had one, and then another and another- never really stopping munching kind of thing. I mean free candy, come on! But tonight I had one and savored it. And right before the end of the whole meeting I had just one more. It was unreal. I was fine having two Reese's. This is a BIG deal. I ran home after the meeting too. It started raining about two minutes after I left. Made it home in record time! Plus I was carrying a big folder full of work stuff. Feeling proud!

L: Day 29

Today was a verry busy day today, so I didn't really have to worry about eating. Plus an early morning dentist visit that numbed half my mouth curbed the hunger as well.

Food:
Bowl honey nut cherrios, 1 protein bar, bread roll, 1 bag 100-calorie chips, 1 bowl tomato soup + toasted cheese sandwich, 1 banana, 1 100-calorie ice cream bar.
Calories: 1550
Vitamin: yes
Exercise: 1 hour moderate swimming (not real hard, but the sprints killed me a little)

Tuesday, June 8

L: Yippppe!!

I tried on a dress earlier tonight that I got for the Christmas of '08 but never seemed to fit right. It's a sleek little black dress, one that is hard to disquise the body under, meaning that I haven't even worn it outside the house yet.

And guess what.... IT FITS!!!!
Yahooo! Yay for results!

Also, I looked into the records of the adult swim team I'm on, and turns out I set a record for the top 12 in the mile swim I did last summer! All this time and I didn't know I made it (top 12 in the state. Way cool).
So I think that's the motivation I've been lacking.

Also (this is the last also. I promise) I was listening to the radio tonight and the topic was overweight teen girls and their self-esteem issues. I found myself nodding my head in agreement to nearly everything that was said. As I've said before, I have definite body issues, for accepting myself physically for what I am. I remember once taking someone's comment as "aren't you a curvy girl" as an insult, hinting that I was fat (granted, as I look back, this was the time where I was at my lightest weight and extremely fit). It's just so sad how I've let other people's comments bring me down over the years. Anyways, back to the talk show. Someone was saying that it's very popular to think that "if I could only look like THIS/ be THIS size, I would be happy", when infact, that idea is false. If one cannot accept themself for the way they are, no physical factor is going to boost that self esteem.

Now, while I have a certain size / weight that I would LIKE to be, I am no longer making that a priority. I am stepping back and working on accepting myself for who I am RIGHT NOW and going from there.

Just a little insight into my night.

Monday, June 7

Laila : Day 28

I've been a real butt about counting my calories lately. I don't think it's that I'm losing motivation....in fact I've been seeing results (on the scale, in workouts, and how my clothes are fitting). I'm not too sure what it is. All I know is that I need to get back on track.

Swim suit season is almost here (well it would be if this dang weather would cooperate), and I'm ALMOST ready!!! I'm workin hard to fit into some clothes from last year. I'm feeling really good about my results so far.

Water : 8 glasses
Vitamin: yes
Exercise: 30 min bike (burned about 350 calories), 15 min treadmil walk, 1/2 mi walk around the track, 30 min weights.

Claire: Today's Update

Today I have been feeling so "blah." I don't know exactly why either.. But felt just plain crappy.

Food: oatmeal/pb and a glass of soymilk, iced tall latte (I asked for a "Skinny" but I'm not sure if that's what I got), light peach yogurt, tortilla, 3 eggs, apple sauce and a few green beans, and more pb.
Calories: WAY over- between 1707.5 and 1785.5
Protein: 71 g
Vitamin: the last one, till I buy some more.
Exercise: 3 sets of 10 reps- push ups normal and push ups on knees, set of 20 reps- low rows, high rows, rach pulls, chair dips and lat pulls; then a 4.2 mi run (1.2 of those miles were the warm-up/cool down walk section).

L: Day 27

Sorry this is a bit late.
Here's my update for SUnday.

Vitamin: yes
Water: 10 glasses
Food: 1 protein bar, 1 cup yogurt, 1 bowl soup, 17 veggie chips + dip (I counted them out),
dinner of pulled pork, 1/4 cup potato salad, and 1 smoked chicken breast.
Calories: The stuff I could count (everything but the dinner), added up to 690 calories.
Exercise: 30 min stationary bike, about 1/2 mile walking around the track, 20 min walking on treadmill, going up to 12% incline! And it hurt!

Sunday, June 6

Claire: Beginning of Week 4

Food: oatmeal w/pb, apple, Subway Veggie Patty Sandwich w/Pepper Jack cheese and lots of veggies, soymilk, a light peach yogurt, green beans, and refried beans.
Calories: 1345
Protein: 68.5 g
Vitamin: I forgot.
Exercise: 30 mins on Spin bike (10.24 mi), about a mile's worth of laps on a track w/intervals, and then a treadmill interval workout w/ intervals of 5mph @ 0% incline, and 3.5 mph @ 50% incline.

Went to a local gym/community center with Laila and holy cow was it muggy in there! Sweaty, sweaty, sweaty! I had planned to have a picnic with a couple of my friends, sadly WA weather was at it's "finest" and it hasn't stopped raining ALL DAY. No joke it rained 18 straight days in May. And every day of June except for yesterday. Blarg! I wish it would at least seem more like summer now that it's June. Well at least I got a good workout in!

Saturday, June 5

L: Days 25 and 26

Last night I didn't have internet access at the hotel I was at.
But for an overall view of Friday: epic fail. Stressful day of traveling, registering for classes, and dealing with work drama nearly 24 hours away from home all got to me. Plus eating on campus isn't the healthiest thing ever.

Today (saturday) I was traveling half the day and didn't count either. I do think, though, that I made smart food decisions at the airport: getting a smaller meal as opposed to a bigger one, that sort of thing. By water intake has been off these past three days. And so has the vitamin.

TOmorrow is my 3rd week doing this blog. I will do my best to get on track (after traveling and such). I'm very excited to go to the gym as well- I haven't worked out in about 4 days and am about to go insane!!

No more weightloss to report (go figure), but I did notice this week that my clothes are fitting better, and that my arms are definetly looking / getting stronger.
Yay for some progress.

Claire: It's Saturday?!

OK I've been acting and thinking like today has been Friday, and then it hits me today is Saturday. Where has the weekend gone???

Food: oatmeal w/pb, light peach yogurt, 2 cantaloupe slices, glass of soymilk, 1/3 of my grande skinny iced latte, a pbj sandwich, 3 eggs, baby carrots, and another serving of pb. (I eat a lot of pb don't I?)
Calories: 1417
Vitamin: yes- need to buy more
Water: Stopped counting this...
Exercise: play day also known as Fartleck- yes, it sounds funny. I went to the local HS did a lap around their field trail (1mi), did some sprints on the track while walking the whole track after each sprint (1.25 mi), and walked/ran home (3.8 mi+).

OK, I said I'd give a weight loss update today and here it is- the previous weeks my weight has been fluctuating which is fairly normal, albeit annoying. But as of this week, I've officially lost 10 lbs total now!!!! YAY!!!! I'm stronger, a little faster and feel better. I'm definitely a recreational runner but I want to become a Runner, an Athlete, a Marathoner, and one day a Triathlete.

This quote is pretty sweet:
"Workouts are like brushing my teeth; I don't think about it, I just do it. The decision has already been made."

Claire: Getting Stronger

It's pretty cool when you finally start noticing some more changes. Like my arms- there's more definition and less "wiggle,"and my legs- definition and more endurance. I'm finally able to inhale through my nose while running, (weird comment right?). I was trained as a swimmer and we inhale through our mouths, exhale through our noses- it just doesn't work the other way around ya know? This week I've been really trying to work on my breathing and I can do it now! Also my weight has been pretty steady- not much loss, but no gains either!!

Food: oatmeal w/pb, green beans, apple sauce, Subway Veggie Patty Sandwich w/pepper jack cheese, apple, light strawberry yogurt, pb, 2 eggs.
Calories: 1440
Protein: 65 g
Exercise: 4 sets of 15: elevated lunges, stationary lunges, jump squats, ball press, torso twists, and reverse crunches. 4 sets of 20: body squats, regular lunges and hip thrusts. I also did some planks, my first two I could hold for a whole minute, the following two around 50 seconds.

Claire: Bring it On!!

Yesterday I set a goal to run 5 miles today. Why? Because I've been lacking on my running lately. And I blew that goal outta the water!! I ran 6 miles!!!! I did 2 laps of the Big Hill trail- or 4 lengths, plus ran the long way home again and holyshmoly I did it! Weird fact: for 2+ miles I had "It's a Hard Knock Life" stuck in my head. You know, the song from Little Orphan Annie the musical? Yeah, weird. I've noticed that I like running better without a music player too. Odd right?

Food:Oatmeal w/2tbsp pb, Veggie Patty Subway sandwich (9-grain whole wheat bread, lettuce, olives, jalapenos, pickles, spinach, banana peppers, mustard, and pepper), a light peach yogurt, baby carrots, a pbj sandwich.
Calories: 1399! (back on track baby!)
Water: stopped counting this lately..
Vitamin: Yeppums
Exercise: walked .6 miles, ran 6 miles, stretched afterwards too.

L: Day 24

Greetings from BEAUTIFUL (and might I say sunny) Colorado!! I'm here for an orientation for the school that I'll be going to in the fall. And I'll just say it again......it's beautiful here! I'm just getting used to the fact that there can be "raincloud"-y lookin things MINUS the rain here. It's so great.
I don't really have access to calorie counting for the next 2.5 days, so I'm just trying to eat as healthy as I can.
Food: 1 bowl honey nut cherrios, 1 Italian combo sandwich (courtesy of the airport), 1 100-calorie chex mix, 340 calorie drink from Jamba Juice, dinner of chicken, potatoes and peppers (kind of teryaki style) and 2 breadsticks.
Water: about 10 glasses.....this elevation is killing me!
Vitamin: I forgot to pack them.....whoops.
Exercise: I did my best, went down to the hotel's "fitness room" and did about 15 min on the stationary bike.

Claire: Day 25

It blows my mind that it's almost been an entire month.

Food: oatmeal w/2tbsp pb, soymilk, carrots, apple sauce, 2 eggs, green beans, lasagna Florentine, soymilk, another serving of green beans, 2 slices of bread, 2 tbsp pb and a tbsp of strawberry jelly.
Calories: 1575- I'm going to stick with 1500-1600 calories and see how it goes for the next couple weeks.
Protein: 68 grams- met this goal!
Water: unknown.. need more
Vitamin: yes sir!!
Exercise: 4 set of 15 reps- front raise, lateral raise, bent over fly, Arnold/should press, full curls, hammer curls, kickbacks w/palms facing me and palms forward, and chair dips. Followed this all up with a .6 mile walk and a 3.4 miles run.

I started out feeling really lazy and thought about skipping my run today. Then the rain stopped earlier this evening after my strength training. I decided to go on the trail I normally avoid because there's this HUGE hill and for some reason it was the trail I chose to take. BTW I beat that hill! And took the long way home to make the run last longer. WOOT!

Tuesday, June 1

L: Day 23

Despite feeling very motivated today, I felt physically crappy. So I started out the day well (oatmeal, I usually can't stand oatmeal), with fruit. But I slowly started downhill. I ordered a drink of chocolate-y, coffee goodness today that blew my calorie counting for the day.

But overall I feel as though I made good choices throughout the day.
Calories: ? No idea
Water: 8 glasses...that 10 is hard to get to
Vitamin: yes
Exercise: 90 min (hard) swimming.

Claire: Day 24

Trying to incorporate more protein into the mix is difficult for me since I'm a vegetarian living with my family. Their main source of protein is from meat and so they don't really think about buying other types of high protein foods. Grrr. Going to trying searching for some high protein vegetarian foods.

Food: oatmeal w/2tbsp of pb, soymilk, apple, pbj sandwich, banana, Florentine lasagna, baby carrots, apple sauce, 1 tbsp of pb and 1 tbsp of almond butter.
Calories: 1582
Vitamin: yes!
Water:10 glasses and counting
Exercise: nope.. :(

Also I forgot to mention that for the month of May I lost a total of 6 pounds. YAY! To recap on previous posts, I've also lost a pants size and a bra size too as well as have run my first 5k race.

L: An Inspiration....

I was reading through a magazine today at the dentists office and was encouraged / inspired. It was an article on Kim Kardashian, and while normally I find these articles to be fake, I was still encouraged. In the article, she described how growing up as a curvy girl affected her in the long run. I, too, grew up without the stick-thin body. And although I now look at pictures from a while back and think "wow, I really wasn't too bad back then", I remember the feelings of hopelessness and insecurities I had about my body. I surrounded myself with people who had different body tyes than my own and compared myself to them. Which of course resulted in a lose-lose situation.

One quote mentioned in the article was "I may as well embrace my curves, because they're not going anywhere soon. So I can either appreciate my body for what it is or simply be miserable the rest of my life". So so true.

I am working on liking....no, loving my body. Because as hard as I try, I'm stuck with it. No longer am I going to live my life as "if I can only lose those last _ pounds". Because I've done that nearly my entire life (that I can remember atleast). I have hated my body since I was 8 years old. And that's stopping right now. It may not look as good as I wish to in a swimsuit or in that certain pair of jeans, but I refuse to go through life thinking "if only". I've done that for 12 years now. And that's way too long.

That's my thoughts for now.

Claire's Goals Updated

If you can't tell, I can write bunches.

Armed with new information and a new plan I thought I might share some new goals too.

Eat 60-100 grams of protein a day, making sure to have lean protein with every meal/snack
Calories: yep, I'll still be counting. It's gonna bump up to 1300-1400.
After 5pm make sure my carbs are from fruit and veggies
Strength Train Monday, Wednesday and Friday- followed by cardio for 45 mins to an hour and a half. (Unless I split it: ex- morning run, strength train evening)
Tuesday and Thursday will be my cardio days- goal is to run 5 miles each of these days.
Saturday- cardio day: focus on distance- pushing myself to do further.
Sunday- rest day! :)

My goal for this week is to run 5 miles on Saturday and stretch after all of my workouts.
My goal for June is to be able to run 8 miles, and stick to this updated plan.

Bigger goal- no more flabby arms, thighs or midsection! I want to develop my body into an athletic one. I want to use my potential and whip my body into shape. I especially want to significantly reduce my body fat!!!

Claire: Day 23- better plan!

My brother Brian is a personal trainer, I asked about why I was gaining weight after doing an intense workout and he helped me out. Oddly enough, he never answered my question, but oh well. Instead he took a gander at what I was eating and what I've been doing for exercise. Surprise, surprise, I haven't been getting enough protein in. He also helped me look more closely at the nutritional labels too. A few of the foods I eat regularly are high in carbs, which isn't necessarily a bad thing- I need carbs just like anyone else, the problem is that most of the carbs are coming from sugar. And on top of that, I wasn't getting protein in all of my meals which is part of my problem.

I'm glad he can help! Hopefully now with a better handle on my nutrition and armed with a new workout plan things will get going.

Food: cereal w/soymilk, ser. of wheat thins, pbj sandwich, light peach yogurt, apple and baby carrots, 2 eggs, and a ser. of vegetable lentil soup.
Calories: 1222
Water: maybe 8... I can FEEL that I need more.
Vitamin: no, again.
Exercise: 3 sets of 7 normal push-ups, 3 sets of 10 knee push-ups, 4 sets of 15 low row, high rows, rack pulls. Walked 1.2 miles, ran 2.2 miles.

L: Day 22

I realized since I've missed a couple days on here that I've lost count. Today is really my 22nd day. I got this.

I went over today....not sure how much exactly. Having a family get-together that only happens a couple times a year and we've been going out to eat lately.

Calories: 14oo + a rueben sandwich at Applebee's (that I didn't like all that much)
Food: 2 scrambled eggs w/ 2 pieces toast, 1 bag 100-calorie chex mix, 2 100-calorie ice cream bars, 1 granola bar, 1 apple, 1 s'more, 1 rueben sandwich.

Vitamin: No
Water: 7 glasses
Exercise: None. Still recovering from Saturday's hike.

Claire: Day 22

Today I really blew it... Was pretty sore and have been pushing my body pretty hard the last couple of days so I decided that today would be a rest day for me.

Food: cereal w/soymilk, cereal w/normal milk (not as good to me), light peach yogurt, 2 servings of wheat thins with 1 tbsp almond butter, chips and salsa, 2 tortillas, 2 scrambled eggs w/2 pieces of toast.
Calories: 1710- YIKES
Water: I don't know.
Vitamin: Not today :(
Exercise: not much of anything, still pretty sore from yesterday's hike.

today was not a grand day.

L: Day 19

Today I woke up and was the MOST sore I have ever been. Ever. I've hiked a lot, and wrecked havoc on my body, but nothing close to today. I guess it just goes to show what a good workout yesterday was.

Calories: 1540 (plus a piece of chocolate cake I made. But I threw it out after a couple bites. It wasn't good at all).
Food: 2 protein bars, 1 cup yogurt, 1 large orange, 3 pancakes (with fresh strawberries), 2 bags 100-calorie chex mix, 1 large banana, 1 100-calorie ice cream bar.
Vitamin: yes
Water: 8 glasses. Ugh.
Exercise: None today, tomorrow will bring some though I'm sure

Sunday, May 30

Claire: Week End of Three!

Today was perfect weather for hiking, and as Laila said, we did. A lot. Yeah, it was crazy, but so much fun too!

Food: Oatmeal, light peach yogurt, slice of cantaloupe, low fat string cheese, special k protein bar, streamed broccoli, green beans and zucchini, baby carrots, a serving of wheat thins, refried beans, 3 tortillas, cheddar cheese, green beans, serving of wheat thins.
Calories: 1280
Water: not enough
Exercise: hiked 7.5 miles in 4.5 hours, body's gonna be feeling it tomorrow!

Can anyone explain to me why my body is gaining weight instead of losing it???? Over the last two days I've gained 3 pounds now??? It can't be all muscle can it?? I'm rather frustrated about it!

Saturday, May 29

L: Day 18

Agggg. I'm finally back on :)

Well today I hiked. And hiked. And hiked.
I'm sad to report I've only got about 8 glasses of water in.
I did, however, hike (as mentioned above) for about 4 hours. It was a good solid workout. I am very proud of Claire and I.

I only had about 1000 calories today. Not nearly enough. I would eat more if I weren't so tired.
Food:
bowl Special K cereal, 1 string cheese, sandwich with cheese, turkey, and mayo, 2 protein meal bars.
Vitamin: YES.

I am re-making it a priority to post everyday. Kind of fell off the wagon there for a bit. But you will hear more from me. I promise.

Claire: Serious Gym Time!

Food: Oatmeal, slice of bread w/pb, Garden Patty Subway 6 in. sandwich w/all the veggies and mustard, baby carrots, 2 scrambled eggs between 2 slices of toast.
Calories: 1200
Vitamin? Yes!
Water: 13?
Exercise: 1 hr 5 mins. treadmill, leg press, hip abductors inner and outer, leg curls, bicep curls, arm dip thingys (I forgot the name), trunk twists, oblique workout, 30 mins on stair-stepper. Was in the gym for a good 2 and a half hours today!
On the way home stopped by Subway to pick up a Garden Sandwich, so yummy, packed with veggies!

Weird fact: I gained a little weight today... I couldn't have built muscle that quickly, could I? Maybe I had too much bread? Kind of frustrated.

Adventures in P-town and Why Running Wasn't A Good Idea

Had to do a drug test for my new job today and they sent me to the wrong location! So one of my friends and I having a new destination and direction to boot scurried around P-town searching for this clinic. Ok one of my favorite comedies is "The Hang Over," and we must have made like a couple hundred references to that movie while looking for this place! We also decided that she should date this one guy who kind of talks like Elmer Fudd, just so I could have a never-ending supply of jokes, sarcastic remarks and laughs! (Really, we're not that bad!)

After that escapade was finished, I had to take a nap. I haven't needed one since I've started working out regularly and eating better, this should have been a hint that my body isn't ok today. Some how I ignored that red flag and decided to push myself to go for a run after my nap. Yeah after my warm-up and like half-way through the first length of the trail my body decided to revolt. Body was not happy. Decided to walk after the first length, and jogged like half the way back to the trail head. Hopefully I'm not getting sick. I better not be getting sick!!

Food: life cereal w/soymilk, light strawberry yogurt, eggo waffle w/almond butter and apple slices w/almond butter, baby carrots, tortilla w/refried beans and a little cheddar cheese, a light peach yogurt and more life cereal w/soymilk.
Calories: 1247
Water: 12-14 glasses
Vitamin: check!
Exercise: ran/walked 3.6 miles
Well I've been slacking.
Yesterday I didn't post because I was working like a madwoman on a couple of research papers. Now that those are done I can finally focus on other things for a change. Ahhh.

Yesterday (tuesday) I started counting, but ended off the day with emotional eating. Always fun. Today however, I counted. Had 1540 calories, along with 10 glasses of water (epically failed on that yesterday), and exercised for about 45 mins: 15 min on the elliptical, 20 min on the bike and 10 min walking on the treadmill. I can tell I'm getting stronger- recently I've been challenging myself on the treadmill to go on higher inclines ( I love to hike, so this is kind of my warm-up until the weather gets better). Today I was on 7.0% for about 5 minutes without it really being hard.

Yay!
No more weight loss for me--still working on that

Wednesday, May 26

Claire: Day 18

Claire, the Gym and Day 17

Maybe it's just me, but gyms are confusing places! Really it's just the weight machines. I just don't know what to do for strength training. I know a few really, really basic free-weights strength training moves. Like curls, squats, lunges, tri-dips and dead-lifts, but that's about it. I need some help here...

Food: 2 eggs scrambled on 1 piece of toast (no butter) with a glass of soymilk, baby carrots, an apple, boiled broccoli, another glass of soymilk, a cup of tea w/2 tbsp powdered sugar and 2 tbsp soymilk, oatmeal, light peach yogurt, 16 oz of sugar-free cranberry juice, 1 tbsp of pb.
Calories: 1174- still too long, dang it
Water: 12 glasses
Vitamin: hecka yeah
Exercise: Treadmill interval training- 5 miles in 54 minutes, 10 push ups, plank for 30 seconds 2 reps, lots of STRETCHING! ;)

I'm thinking about signing up for a half-marathon or a triathlon. Not sure yet.

L: Day 15

Woot woot. I'm noticing more changes. YES!

I got some pants that I've had in storage for a few months, thinking they'd be too tight. Not. I can take them off while wearing a belt. Crazy. But a good kind of crazy. Plus I tried on a swimsuit I wore last year....almost fits! I never thought I'd get to this point without being on a really involved swim team. But I am. And it feels great.

Food:
1 protein bar, 2 cups yogurt, 1 banana, bowl fresh strawberries, "Healthy Choice" Mac & Cheese with sausage, 1 cup chocolate pudding, 1 salad (tomatoes, cheese, mushrooms, ham, ranch dressing), 1 bag 100-calorie chex mix.

Total calories: 1591
Water: 10 glasses
Vitamin: yes!
Exercise: 30 min stationary bike, 20 min lifting (mainly working on arms and quads / hamstrings).
*It's getting to the point that even biking is starting to hurt, so if there's any ideas on how to get cardio in without the use of my knee (excluding running, biking, walking, etc) it would be much apprectiated. I don't want to get to the point where I'm having to give up on all cardio because I've come MUCH too far to just let the weight come back on. We'll work on that....

Monday, May 24

Claire's Alive on Day 16

I am beginning to realize how exercise really does change my outlook for the whole day. Woke up feeling kinda lame and all. But once I started running, it was if the sun came out and music started playing like in a movie or something. Lol! Maybe it wasn't that dramatic. Nevertheless, one good choice does make it easier to make more good choices, and working out brightens my day. Came home and wanted to work out more! So I popped my "Cardio Max" dvd in and worked up a good sweat working out with it. Followed it up with a workout dubbed "Ab Flatteners" I got off the net.

Food: Oatmeal, soymilk, cantaloupe, light peach yogurt, cooked some broccoli and zucchini together, baby carrots, a gala apple, celery and some pb, cranberry juice, refried beans and some more pb.
Calories: 1101- too low..
Water: 10 glasses
Vitamin: yeppers
Exercise: Running (with some walking intervals) 1 hr, Cardio Max dvd 30 min, Pikes 15 reps, 15 reps of Crunchy frogs (who comes up with the names?), 15 reps of Tornadoes, 15 reps Corkscrews, 2 sets of Side Arm Balances.

I also joined the Pound for Pound Challenge to fight hunger in America. I recommend checking it out! I mean getting healthier and working out regularly will result in losing weight might as well as take part in an awesome organization too. :)

Just Do It

One of the reasons why I love Nike.

L: Day 14

Today went well. I'm down another pound!!! Woo hoo! Went to the gym today and was able to leg press 300 lbs 20 times. It was great. I'm STRONG :) Because I haven't been able to do much cardio (running, biking) because it hurts the knee too much, I've been focusing more on lifting. And noticing a big difference. My arms and legs are definetly slimming down more. It's great.

I can almost fit into a size 34 swimsuit...I have a 38 now that is getting a little loose. Plus, I got said swimsuit for a whopping $3 at a church garage sale. So sweet. Normally it would have been atleast $30.

Calories : 1600
Food: bowl special K cereal, 3 cups (total) yogurt, 1 protein bar, 3 pieces chicken, 1 cup esparagus, 1 big bowl fresh strawberries, 1 energy bar (at the hospital), 1 hot pocket, 1 large orange.
Water: 8 glasses
Exercise: 30 min stationary bike, 30 min lifting
Vitamin: Yup

C:15

Being a girl, it's that time. Felt pretty lame all day long. Plus, I being brilliant, forgot to stretch after my run on Saturday and &%$ my legs hurt today! Super sore. :(

I gotta say, yay for friends! I received like three pairs of shorts today and a pair of practically brand new jeans from Laila! She was going through her stuff and thought they might fit me. The jeans, no joke, fit me perfectly, which is hard to do since I'm just over 5 ft tall. Crazy stuff! It was the highlight of my day!

Update-wise: felt like crap today and didn't count.
Food: two Eggo waffles, 1tbsp strawberry jelly, 1 tbsp peanut butter, 1/2 a glass of my chocolate soymilk, a 1/2 quesadilla, a light peach yogurt, two bean and cheese burritos, two glasses of tea w/sugar, and 1/4 cup of soymilk to cool them.
Calories: approximately1460-1490
Exercise: none... hey I could barely move! Girly time + sore legs= gimme a break! :)
Vitamin: yes.
Water: 8 maybe.

My goals for this week:
Run 4+miles 5 days
Strength train 3 days
Stretch after each workout!!!

Will be posting workouts on here soon and hopefully some pictures too!

Sunday, May 23

L: Day 13

Today I'd say was a good day. I can feel myself losing motivation for counting. Ugh. Never fun when that happens. While I don't have the calorie count, here's all that I ate today:

1 protein bar, 1 cup coffee, 1 banana, 1 bagel with cream cheese, yogurt / blueberry / granola parfait, 1 doughnut (gave blood today...they pretty much force feed you food. Believe me). 3 pieces chicken, 1 cup (or so) green beans, 1/2 cup cottage cheese.

Water: more than I can count

Exercise: 25 min bike (I'm afraid that's the only kind of cardio I'll be able to do from here on out), and about 30 min working with weights (both arms and legs).

PLUS I went shopping today....in my closet. Haha. And found a lot of clothes I've stored away from last year or prior, not thinking they'd fit me since my drastic weight gain a few months back. And guess what?? A good portion of them DO fit!!!! Very exciting :)

Saturday, May 22

1st 5k Race of the Year!

Getting up at 6:30 am isn't my thing, but in anticipation of my 7am alarm my body woke up! (Funny how that happens) Today is my first 5k race- ever! Trying to maneuver quietly around the house while making breakfast and trying to find my missing running shoes should earn me some serious points. Finally, I hear a knock on the front door, Laila is here to pick me up.

Why does it always have to rain when I'm about to go running? Just wondering.

We arrive at Ester Shore Park and it's still drizzling. A beautiful Washington morning! lol! I get my registration packet and shiver while waiting for things to begin. Laila, being a traitor to the PNW has brought an umbrella! ;) Every time one of us moves I almost lose an eye to the murderous umbrella, lol! I still crack up thinking out it! A lady with a speaker headset is trying to get people to join in some early morning group exercises and sadly, no one is joining in. She's just bouncing around by herself to some really energetic music. Finally the call is in, time to go to the starting line.

They use an air horn to signal the start, but it doesn't work! Hahaha! We just all kind of go, "oh we should probably get moving." The path we're on curves around, going under the 1-5 bridge into Portland and slides past the Columbia River. The 10k runners continue to run alongside the river and we 5ks turn to the left and head on a steep path up and over rd 500. We continue heading to Fort Vancouver and curve as we head to Officers Row. We take a right and circle back the way we came. Two fit looking women my age are ahead of me. On the climb back over rd 500 I catch up to them. I pass them running downhill. Coming back along the river we are at the same pace. Keeping pace with these two made it a little easier to keep me from slowing down. 500 feet from the finish line I pick up my pace, breaking away from the two women. I dig deep and sprint to the finish.

Legs are wobbly, face is probably red, and I made a 30 minute 20 second time according to one of the volunteers! Heck yes! I made an average of a 9:40 mile! That's like a two minute or more drop from my last event in November!!!

Must celebrate this occasion! Both of us get a hair cut, enjoy fresh bagels, and have a fashion show at a local store while trying on clothes (did I mention I lost about 1 or 2 pant sizes?) and I find a pair of sweet Levi's for half of the normal price.

Today is a very good, sweet kind of day.

L: Days 11 &12

Sorry I wasn't on yesterday to give my daily report. Got caught up in assignments for my classes...midterm time will do that to ya. Yesterday (Thursday), I did great on the water, got in a vitamin, and exercised for about an hour in the morning, and then swim practice at night. I've noticed a HUGE improvement in my strength in the last couple of weeks. I was able to swim about a 200 meter consecutive Butterfly. And if you're a swimmer, you know how great that is!

Today (Friday) I did well on water again. I'm donating blood tomorrow so getting in at least 10 glasses was crucial. I took a vitamin and ate about 1610 calories today (estimating because I made a Subway run). No exercise to report today. Went to the doctor's FINALLY. I'm having an MRI done on my knee to see exactly what's wrong, but my doctor thinks that it's torn cartilage, and if that's the case I'll need surgery (scary). So we'll see how that pans out. I'll post more when I know. My only want is the ability to keep exercising. I'm 20 pounds down, and I'm not turning back!!

C: Day 13!

Binge eating is something that I easily do when I'm bored or stressed- tomorrow is my 5k and I'm a little stressed about it, mainly because I'm worried I'll be embarrassingly slow. Gosh that sounds so retarded! I started out the day really well, eating a balanced breakfast and all and then mid-afternoon came. I made a healthy lunch but then still wanted more. I didn't need it, but I wanted some almond butter, so I finished the little bit left in the jar. And then I went for the peanut butter. AND followed that with two glasses of my chocolate soymilk.

Ok maybe it wasn't all that bad after-all! LOL! I mean those are healthy foods and I kept track of how much I had of each too! To compare that to what I used to eat in a binge and holy cow- this is practically NOTHING!! :) I bet Laila will laugh at this when she blogs later!

I definitely learned somethings today, like that my "binges" are improving! I even tried to make the rest of the day healthy by a strength training workout and jogging with weights while watching The Biggest Loser, (it was a re-run). I didn't eat again until I was actually hungry and made my self a small quessadilla and didn't have seconds! (Listen, I really wanted seconds.) I was full so I stopped eating. :)

Food: Special K w/light v. soymilk, Eggo waffle w/Almond butter, 2 eggs, >1/4 cup mushrooms, 1 cup fresh spinach, 2 tbsp almond butter, 2 tbsp peanut butter, 2 glasses light chocolate soymilk, 1 flour tortilla, .5 oz cheddar cheese.
Calories: 1328
Vitamin: yep
Water: 8 glasses
Exercise: strength training 30 mins, running in place w/weights 45 mins.

C: Dozen

Being from the Pacific Northwest I should be used to the rain, especially at the most inopportune moments, but alas it hasn't sunk in like it ought to! :)

Went for a jog and on the last length it started to spittle, and by the time I was halfway to the end the weather must have decided I was dirty because I basically had a shower while jogging! LOL!

Food: Oatmeal, Eggo waffle, almond butter, light chocolate soymilk, light strawberry yogurt, orange, egg, a slice of bread, cantaloupe, lasagna Florentine, and some refried beans.
Calories: 1250

Also I promised to write about how my interview went and guess what? I was awesome! :D they said I pretty much have the job! Will find out for sure on Monday or Tuesday of next week. YAYness!

L: Day 10

Today was a good day :) I feel like I did a good job of eating healthy, and I can tell that it's paying off! I was able to get up to level 17 on the bike today...something I haven't been able to do in about a year. I think I'm getting stronger. No more weight loss, but it's coming along.

Food: slice of cantaloupe, Eggo waffle w/.5 Tbsp of Almond butter, Special K w/light vanilla soymilk, a slice of cornbread, 3/4 cup of cantaloupe, baby carrots, green beans, a slice of bread w/1 Tbsp of almond butter, a Smart One Lasagna Florentine, a glass of sugar-free cranberry juice, a light strawberry yogurt, and 2 servings of air popped popcorn, and a glass of light chocolate soymilk for dessert.

Vitamin: yessiry!
Water: 9 glasses- need more
Exercise: walked 4 miles with two 5 lbs hand weights

*Right now I'm wearing a pair of my favorite pajama pants that I haven't worn in a LONG time because they were too snug, now they're actually loose! Also my jeans and ahem- bras, are too big now.

My interview is tomorrow morning!!! I really, really really hope I get it! Then I can get some new clothes that fit the shrinking me! Wish me luck.

L: Day 9

Today was a good day. Nothing really spectacular to report, just working at it!

Food: 1 protein bar, 1 hot pocket, 1 PB&J sandwich, 1 granola bar, 1 60-calorie ice cream bar, 1 bowl of grapes, salad (cheese, tomatoes, turkey, mushrooms, ranch dressing), 1 bag 100-calorie chips, 1 cup hot chocolate.
Total Calories: 1600
Water: 10 glasses!!
Vitamin: yes
Exercise: 10 min elliptical, 15 min bike ride, 20 min treadmill (walking, uphill).
*Because of the still unknowns of my knee injury (to be determined Friday), I decided it wouldn't be safe for me to go out hiking alone, which I have done in the past. So I figured I could still get into hiking shape with being in the comfort / safety of the gym. Thank goodness those treadmills have incline buttons! Today I walked mainly with a 9.0% incline for a good portion of my walk. It was tough, but worth it!

C: D 10

Ok, more excitement on this end! Today I jogged and partially ran 4.4 miles!!!

Running/jogging for me is more about pushing my self mentally. My body is capable but I'm not always willing. Sometimes it's just a struggle believing that I can. I know that may sounds strange to some people, but I've been told for so long, even told by myself, that I can't do things that I don't always try, I don't take the risk because I can't. Well today, the last 2.2 miles I kept repeating this mantra (I guess it's a mantra) "Who has mental strength? I have mental strength!" It worked with my jogging cadence too! I know it sounds rather cheese, but the last 1.1 mile was the best mile I've ever run so far. I was grinning from ear-to-ear, because I was proving that I am mentally stronger than I was before.

So this isn't just about being physically stronger, but stronger mentally, emotionally, and even spiritually. It's about becoming healthier.

Food: light chocolate soymilk, oatmeal, banana, Tall Iced Skinny Carmel Latter, non-fat refried beans, baby carrots, diced peaches, celery, an egg, cornbread (had way too much of it!), and lots of green beans.
Calories: 1491- this is on the higher side of my calorie allowance!
Vitamin: yep
Water: 12 glasses
Exercise: jog/ran 4.4 miles, walked 1.2 miles. Did some stretching, and I want to make stretching a habit.

Fun project: working on building some inspiration boards for my room, will post some pics when I'm finished with them!
